A song that would have been on Blue Atlas were it not for all the synthesized noises which I love, but which seemed to put it at odds with the rest of the songs on Blue Atlas...to my ears at least...others argued for it's inclusion. One of the best demos I've done out in the Bungalow, I think. I enjoyed the recording immensely, weird sounds, kooky riffs, one note keyboard lines! again, I'm hoping some chanteuse will grab it and run with it...
In Your Arms
A song written at a Mushroom Music Publishing getaway...in 20 minutes with John Kater, who does all the harmonies, and then Matt Fell the sound engineer, did such a great job with his playing (I sing and play acoustic, he does the rest) and his suggestions, that he had to get a writing credit as well. Lyrics made up on the spot (particularly the middle eight) lead to one of my fav lines 'You were standing right there with a picture beside you, it seemed to want to lose its frame'. Was happy with the song at the time, and it seems to be ageing well.
Seduced by the Moon
Written for the musical performance 'Othello Cars', by noted Melbourne director Brendan Fitzgerald. Brendan said the show needed some chorus's, so he passed on these two lines to me, and said a Tom Waits type treatment might be good! ....ahem....well....I then passed on some chords to my 12 yr old son, who played the piano, unfortunately no one else was at hand, so I did the rest...let's credit the vocal to Satchmo (Scooby-Doo) Waits. I trust the fun we had recording this song is apparent and yes the embarrassement gene has moved on!
Leaving Kansas
Photographer Stu Spense invited a bunch of musical and literary mates to contribute a song/story to any of the photos that capture our imagination from his new exhibition 'As Yet Unclear'. One of these photos, 'Leaving Kansas' did just that, as did many others (I could easily write an album with the inspired material that Stu presents). The exhibition opened in Noosa, and Stu was born in Geelong, to explain those references in this song, everything else, should, make sense. Hopefully the show will make it's way to your town soon, where you too can slip the headphones on and get wrapped up in Stu's beautiful, dark little world.
